I would respecfully disagree. Apart from the battery, the Surface Pro 1 and Samsung Smart PC Pro (later renamed to Ativ 700t) are superior from any point of view. There were probably other Wave 1 Windows 8 tablets that I dont know, but whoever they are, they most likely didnt screw up as much as Acer did.
I still cant believe Acer decided to save a few bucks and not laminate the screen on a $1000 tablet. Worse, they didnt bother to seal it properly leading many devices to have air bubbles inside http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-Tablets/Air-bubbles-in-display-W700/td-p/117521
Thats just one issue. They also decided it is cool to throttle a 1 GHz GPU to 0.3 GHz. If that is not enough, they used what's probably the worst WiFi antenna configuration ever shipped in a tablet, let alone $1000 tablet. The reception is worse than anything Ive ever used, including a $10 USB WiFi adapter from China. If you have the later version that ships with a BT keyboard instead of docking cradle, you would get what possibly is the most shallow keys ever installed on a keyboard. If you did get the docking cradle, they thought it is cool to put a flimsy stand that can slip out at any time to hold a, once again, $1000 tablet. Seriously, you have to try to screw every single thing up and have the balls to charge $1000 for that.
I heard they have improved a lot though. The new Switch Alpha managed to marry U-series processor with fanless design, which I applaud them for, though I hope they did it this time around without throttling the GPU to a third of its specification.
