[Unboxing-Spoiler-free!] Collection of EVE V Reviews [WIKI]

#1

And here is the unboxing/spoiler free variant of @inffy 's topic ([SPOILERS!] Collection of EVE V Reviews).

Please, refrain from posting anything that will kill the unboxing experience in here!

Have fun sharing stuff!

I made it a Wiki now so that everyone can post the links up here and the comments below are for discussions since it’s already starting to be unorganized down there

How is the pen mounted to the V? (if at all)
#3

Great review. Looking forward to my V

#4

“As for myself, the Eve V has completely killed my desire and thirst for a Surface device, and firmly positioned itself as one of the best devices that I have ever used.”

Wow, that’s an amazing vote of confidence!

#5

Wow, another “leaked” review! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

This is finally getting interesting… Make your bets, the time for fun begins!

#6

Notebookcheck apparently has all the Eve V values already up in their database. For example go this review and just put in eve v under the benchmarks to add the eve v for comparison.

It seems as if they got the i5 model as only its metrics are complete.

Here’s a summary for you (i5 Model)

SD card reader:
average JPG Copy Test (av. of 3 runs): 69,8 MB/s
maximum AS SSD Seq Read Test (1GB): 85,2 MB/s

Networking (Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265)
download: 584 MBit/s
upload: 471 MBit/s

Display (some metrics, too many too list them all)
Brightness: 433 Nits
Contrast: 1472
sRGB: 93%
AdobeRBG: 70%

Cinebench (i5-7y54)
SIngle: 145 points
Multi: 221 points

SSD (intel 600p)
Sequential read: 1557 MB/s
Sequential write: 573.5 MB/s
4k read: 26.6 MB/s
4k write: 143.6 MB/s

Battery life
Idle: 16h 27min
H.264: 10h 34min
WiFI testsuite: 8h 43min

For more in-depth numbers, you’ll have to wait for the review. For example if you’re interested in possible throttling, coil-whine etc.

Personally I prefer this style of review over any shitty influencer(99% of youtubers) who say shit like “yeah, all day battery, it did not overheat” etc… Just give me the damn numbers which were collected via good methodology

Comparison to SP2017

m3: 550/655
i5: 577/618

(though keep in mind its a Marvell chip, so it gets those number only when the moon aligns with the sun)

m3: 444, 1356, 99, 64
i5: 401, 1438, 99, 63

m3: 108, 258
i5: 141, 334

m3: 690, 670, 40, 99
i5: 723, 853. 46, 125

This is where its disappointing, considering the SP got 11-12 hours

You are not taking the power consumption into consideration:

Load Average: Surface 22.7W vs EVE V 20.4W
Load Maximum: Surface 23.6W vs EVE V 34.6W

forget everything I wrote above

What you linked are the values from the m3 model which consumes a bit less power then the i5-7Y54 in the eve. However the m3 in the surface has a slightly higher multiscore in cinebench which is weird to me. 258 vs 221 points

#9

Where is promised 99+% sRGB - @Team - could you explain this???

#10

Its still within margins of error, considering it gets higher AdobeRGB (which is wider than sRGB) than the SP2017, I wouldn’t be too bothered with it

#11

That review sounds mostly very promising apart from this past about the trackpad:

It generally works well, but when I tap on it to click (instead of pressing upon the bottom half), it responds nine out of ten times. Now, 90% responsiveness may sound like a great ratio, but that one time out of ten that it doesn’t register my tap feels very annoying and interrupts my workflow. I tried increasing the sensitivity but to no avail. In the end, I had to resort to the traditional clicking

I also prefer tapping instead of clicking. Have others experiences the same? I won’t mention prtotyte testers with @, wouldn’t be very nice in this thread.

#12

It may be cured by a driver update (as said in the test)

#13

10% is not just “slightly higher” …

#14

It kinda sounds like overly-aggressive accidental (palm) rejection, so hopefully that’s the case and it can be resolved with new firmware.

#15

When the values are so low to begin with, it does not make that much of a difference.

#16

Just under nda looking forward to the reviews

#17

SRGb is 100% covered with our display. 2 of the 3 notebookcheck units were calibrated with the wrong profile selected by the factory workers(projector instead of LED) and that caused delta e readings and sRGB readings to be different. The other unit they had did not have this issue.

We were lucky that they noticed it early as we were able to fix it for the HEB production

Why would I buy the Eve V if this deal is out there?
#18

very useful, thanks!

#19

At least one positive effect of sending the review units before the HEB’s.
Good post to help all the ‘you where handling that very mischievous’ posting members. :upside_down_face:

We found out another thing that was even more worrisome :))

Some units had magnets with wrong polarity sent to press so instead of sticking keyboard would be floating.

It was also assembly process issues. For Hyper Early Birds that didn’t happen as we now have 3 magnet polarity checks in line.

It would have been bad of we shipped with this issue
