So, I received my prototype a couple hours ago. Finally the customs guys released it! But it wasn't so nice as the box had been opened... I was worried something would be damaged, but seems like everything is OK.
Not really nice I'd say...
I know I promised videos earlier, but truth is, I feel really ill since yesterday and I won't be able to do that, or any intensive testing, for a few days. However, I can provide you with pictures
Sorry, that's it for now, my camera's battery is dying.
On the other hand. I discovered quiet a few bugs already.
- The touchpad is pretty much impossible to use in wireless mode
- The LCD has white and grey spots all over it, only visible when displaying a solid dark color though
- The display flickers when adjusting backlight in small steps. No problem with jumping in large intervals like 25%.
- It gets really warm even when doing nothing... is that normal...?
- The charger didn't work at first, but now it's OK
Sorry, this seems a bit negative but hey, it's just a prototype. I already like it
I decided to post my progress in this thread so that it's easy to find to anyone looking for information
I successfully booted Ubuntu out of the box. 16.04 LTS version didn't work, but 16.10 works like a charm. More details below:
I somehow managed to break off one pogo pin. No idea how. Well, there's roughly one hour left of its battery life, so I'm using a USB keyboard now.
You can find several bug reports on the keyboard, it's not a good experience at all IMO. But I believe it will get fixed soon.
By the way, media keys work fine. Tested in Spotify, Groove music and Foobar.
It's a little bit springy in the middle, I hope I'll be able to show it in a video later (when I'm not ill). Nothing major Otherwise it's fine, it's very thin but sturdy. It wobbles a bit, but I found a loose screw, so I assume there are more loose screws in the inside that I can't fix. Shouldn't be a problem if all the screws are fastened correctly.
I'm not an artist, but the performance looks amazing for handwriting! Everything I write comes out just like on paper and Windows recognizes it without problems (although it's very stubborn about numbers). In OneNote, it gets a bit more distorted but I think it's just bad software
OK, I just noticed that it has some parallax around the edges of the screen. Nothing serious though, only 1-2 mm towards the center of the screen while using it up to 5 mm from the edge. Oh, and I finally learned how to use the handwriting panel
It doesn't have GPS, but picks up WiFi signals from a quite far range, where most of my other devices can't. I can't say much about speed, because I only have a b/g/n router.
Settings: 10/10, usability: 0/10.
Seriously, it has all the settings I can imagine, I don't even know what most of them do. I feel like I could mess up the system real bad by just messing with it. But it's not usable at all without the keyboard. It doesn't support touchscreen nor mouse, only keyboard (arrow keys). Attaching screenshot below:
