As you know we've already had a poll by @Ervin making the keyboard waterproof, but what wasn't really polled was if we wanted the PF - the 2-in-1 itself - to be 'waterproof'?
Why would I want my device to be 'waterproof'?
We all know from either personal experience or tales that it can happen that a drink gets spilled over a device or similar. 'Waterproofing' can provide protection against that or maybe even more!
Why is waterproof in quotation-marks?
Because there are many levels of waterproofing, called "IP-certification". And a device can be made resistant to spills while still being damaged when fully submerged in water.
Why are there only 2 options?
Because I personally feel that waterproofing the PF so it can withstand being submerged for more than 30 minutes is a feature that reads nicely on a spec-sheet but doesn't provide anything useful that a cheaper protection can already offer.
Thus I suggest IPX4 as it provides protection against rain, splashes and spilling - which I feel are the most common things to occur to a portable device like this.
Please remember, that this might be a pretty costly feature (quote from Mike here)
While the quote is for the cost of submerging a device, making it spill-proof might be cheaper, but there is no confirmation for that.
So, here is the main poll: Do we want the device to be spill-proof?
- No, I don't care about waterproofing the PF
- Yes, resistance against 'splashing water' (IPX4)
And please, share your thoughts with the rest of the community regardless of what you vote!
EDIT: Also credits to @shakeyhome for inspiring this whole poll
