I would offer myself to test this
jokes aside: that would be cool. Best solution would be if members could choose between microfiber, alcantara and bare metal (preferred by me).
I believe the feel of Alcantara, tho I dont mind if you would send me a sample
Im more concerned about its durability, as i mentioned here a few months ago https://eve.community/t/alcantara-durability-longevity-maintenance/4007
It'd be cool if you could tell us the colors of the keyboard LED's. Thanks
Here are some pictures. I can say that it will definitely attract and show a lot of dust. The pictures make it look grayer than it is. Don't get me wrong, it is not ugly (Although my wife did use that word) and I am sure it will perform the function required, it's just a touch thing. I can relate it to the first time I touched an Apple iphone cover. It just felt nice and you didn't quite know if it was fabric, rubber or plastic, it just felt and looked good.
Hi MikeYes there was a username already configured so probably that was it. As I said I do not have a lot of experience with Windows Tablet so probably mostly my issue.
Some comparison pictures. This is the Surface Pro Signature Cover made from Alcantara. From the images it has for some reason a more premium look, just regarding the material and perception. To me it looks like it would feel better:
And again the images of the V keyborad by @liam1062:
Well, first the Surface alcantara is grey, so all this dust is nearly invisible, which let's the V just look dirty while in fact it is not.
However, the grey alcantara seems to be more compressed, so it looks / feels smoother.
I think it has to do a lot with the color - the darker look just doesn't really work with the alcantara texture imo.
Mine looks OK...
It does look a lot neater - but I still think the darker color makes it look a bit more "dirty"
Problem is the over compressed image quality. I cannot get a real imagination of the surface texture and its feel when zooming in. We non-testers would need somebody with a really good camera for a really good close up in good lightning.
edit: lens should be wide open so that everything is in focus.edit 2: Actually I meant the lens should be closed down ... like in higher F-stop numbers.
One of the important things i wanted to document was how this Intel chip set will handle decompressing video streams. The newer technologies based on H.265 utilize less bandwidth but are very processor intensive, especially if you don't have a hardware decoder, which the Kaby lake has. So I made a series of comparisons between an Intel i7-4790 Desktop, Intel i7-6700k desktop and Eve
~64 H.264 video streams
As expected above the 2 desktops perform similarly with standard H.264 streams. The V uses more CPU to process these.
Next test H.265
Introduced 4 x H.265 streams into the mix
V performs well and although the resources are stretched, it is comparable to the older i7 Desktop.
This test, pure H.265 only
Again, good performance with good hardware. This was a very simplistic test but with a real-world application.
Hey @liam1062, would you mind snapping a photo of what the V looks like with the keyboard attached like in that final pic of the SP4 keyboard pic above? MSSurface_Pro4_Alacantra_02?
Paul had mentioned the keyboard may obscure the screen?
I dont think it obscures the display, however it is very flexible if used like that, There is a fabric hinge about 1/4" between the rigid part of the keyboard and the display. Not sure if you could actually type like that, maybe - if you are not a keyboard slammer i guess.
super, thanks! and what about folding it around back? does it indeed disconnect?
Sorry for all the questions, you are one of the few testers near my time zone!
HiYes i am in Carrollton. If you are a backer and @Mike and the V Team want to Sanction it, I am quite prepared to let you have the v in a few days to also do some testing. I am sure the more the merrier. Thanks
Mostly yes, If you are careful you can fold it back without disconnecting but its awkward, there is really no way to hold it without your fingers (well mine at least) not pressing several keys on the back.It is more comfortable to disconnect and flip the keyboard so that the keys are on the back of V and then you have the comfortable fabric to hold onto. Of course the Keyboard will not connect that way and the magnets are N-N and S-S so the connector strip flip around on itself again. Seems to work ok like this but not sure if this is intended and what the longevity of the connector strip would be.
