Very good point that I forgot about, and surely something that would need some testing. It makes me wonder how the skin would insulate a device, but there are other devices that the company makes skins for which do generate some heat (gaming related products) but they all use active cooling. Depending how hot the chassis gets there could be discoloration issues as well. I'm guessing these things are less of an issue with a quality skin material like from 3M but only testing can verify. I'd try it !
Something else came to mind, one that involves quite a bit more effort but could be very cool; PlastiDip. It can be sprayed on with an HVLP gun and as long as you mask off areas with tape correctly, could come out looking mighty fine as well as removable. They have pearlescent effects and color-changing types, metal flake, clearcoats and matte effect too.
