This doesn't seem accurate. Reviews are in since yesterday for the new Surface Pro and they are rating the i7 model as faster than the Surface Book with dedicated Nvidia graphics and the performance base! It's a crazy fast machine. The reviews say the new Surface does not get hot and that temperature affect performance up to 20% only when pushed continuously during extended periods of time.
I seem to be picking on a "culture" difference when I read some comments on this forum as compared to Surface forums: in the Surface community, the essential idea behind Surface was "a tablet that can replace your laptop" - not a MacBook Air type of laptop, but a top of the line MacBook Pro sort of laptop. Since the SP3, the Surface was always a tablet that, in it's higher configurations, would equal the higher end laptops coming out that same year. The idea was "no compromises" (I'm obviously leaving out gamers laptops with dedicated GPU).
That has been my experience: I have used SP3 and then SP4 as my primary computer as I would a MacBook Pro: heavy HD video editing, recording and mixing 30-40 channels of audio with myriad plugins, running neural networks on Matlab, and sometimes playing high end games like GTA V and Battlefront.
In this forum, I get the feeling with some comments that the bar has been set differently: it seems that some have relinquished the idea of a 2-in-1 ever being powerful enough to be the main and only computer one uses - instead seeing it more as a sort of tablet that goes with you while you still have a desktop computer at home for power hungry tasks.
That vision is totally valid of course.
Now if you are like me, you want your 2-in-1 to be as powerful as technology allows us.
The new Surface Pro i5 is 10% faster than previous SP4 i7 (!!!!!).
Since SP4 i5 was already faster in multi core compared to Eve V i5, am I wrong assuming (and would love to be wrong) that fanless 2017 Surface Pro i5 might be 15-25% faster than Eve V i5 on demanding and continuous multi core tasks?
I love the Eve V design, it's keyboard, the visible behind it... If only!
I just can't tolerate the idea of selling my tablet (SP4) and adding money on top to end with a tablet (Eve V) that is slower. It needs to be faster, noticeably faster, for me to justify that investment.
I just wish the Eve would also use the U line on the i5 model ???
