I'm super excited to have found this community a few weeks back! Awesome stuff!
The eGPU dock sparked my interest in particular. There is a vivid DIY eGPU community out there that I have been following on various forums since the introduction of Thunderbolt 1. I never got around building my own eGPU enclosure mainly due to the lack of appropriate components (the only ever "vanilla" Thunderbolt<->PCIe adapter I'm aware of got pulled shortly after release due to licensing issues - presumably).
However, when things still looked rosy in 2011, I initiated a popular thread over at notebookreview.com in an attempt to develop a cummunity based, DIY eGPU enclousure with the ultimate goal of releasing the final blueprints, material lists, CAD drawings and what not for everyone to build his/her own. You can check it here.
Naturally, a community base development project like this one here has me excited! Count me in!
---> As to the question of wattage: 375W would be just perfect, at least for the initial version. Chances are that what goes into the dock will be an "old" desktop gaming or professional card and they just happen to be more power hungry than it's newer siblings.
